Artist Statement

“Strength and Fragility. This duality is what my subject matter explores. My presentation is in line with traditional photography. However, degrees of ambiguity remain. Ambiguity in the choice of subject: Flowers, fragile by nature, but whose strength of form creates the impression of a strong sensuality. Ambiguity in size: Exaggerating delicate natural forms allow the spectator the opportunity to be confronted and submerged by the objects. Ambiguity in presentation: Blurring the lines between painting and photography. I hope to take the viewer away from the constant digital noise in our environment to a serene and meditative space.”      Laurie Tennent on her Botanicals

The images of renowned photographer Laurie Tennent combine classic elegance and artistic style.  Her extensive experience, passionate spirit and artful eye allow her to go throughout the event, unnoticed, create powerful and insightful photographs. A graduate of the prestigious College for Creative Studies with a BFA in Photography, Tennent has exhibited nationally and internationally.  Laurie was most recently featured in a solo show in Paris, being described as “a photographer who is conscious of the current preoccupations in society, the environment, nature close up and from afar, from the most simplistic and fragile occurrences”. She is active in both the commercial and fine art areas of photography, Past President of Michigan Friends of Photography for 10 years, and a member of Wedding & Portrait Photographers International. Laurie brings a unique perspective and unsurpassed skill to her work that is seldom found elsewhere. Her ability to create inspired and captivating imagery, and her eye for capturing exquisite details, distinguishes her photography and promises an extraordinary experience.
