Dear Gallery Friends,

Many of you are aware that our beloved and acclaimed bronze artist, Glenna Goodacre is recovering from a severe head injury sustained in mid-March. She was in intensive care for three weeks with her family and friends at her bedside prompting her day-to-day improvement. She is now in Denver, Colorado at the Craig Institute Rehabilitation Center where she will be until she returns to her Santa Fe home on July 1st.

Glenna's recovery process can be followed at www.caringbridge.org where her husband, Mike Schmidt, writes a daily journal which is currently being read by more than 16,000 people. At the caringbridge.org site, click "Visit," type "Glenna" and register your email address to read the journals and to receive updates. Glenna's cognition is excellent and her physical capabilities are improving every day.

Glenna Goodacre's career spans 30 years of pure love of sculpting and determination to succeed. We have faith that those traits, and the prayers of all, will continue to speed her recovery.

Among her other works, we are honored to present new releases for 2007 as well as some wonderful last of the edition pieces that are currently available.

GLENNA GOODACRE_SACRED SONG

"SACRED SONG"
New Release
Bronze Edition of 50
15" high x 13" wide x 13" deep
$9,000

“I created this little figure from photographs in my archive of snapshots of Plains and Pueblo girls I’ve taken over many years as a painter and sculptor.  With focused concentration, she’s playing a Native wood flute, perhaps rehearsing a song for a ceremonial dance, or creating a new tune to play for her family.  She is wearing a traditional manta, a thick wool dress tied at the waist with a long sash, and the heavy deerskin moccasins which Hopi, Zuni, and Pueblo women wear at their ritual dances. This big, soft footwear keeps them warm during hunting and harvest dances and is an important part of the traditional ceremonial attire they’ve worn for centuries.  These hand-carved wooden flutes were once reserved just for Indian men, but now playing them has been adopted by Native American women. Mary Youngblood, the Seminole/Aleut flautist, is perhaps the most popular performer and recording artist today using this beautiful haunting instrument.”

                                            Glenna Goodacre

Awarded the commission by the US Mint, Glenna Goodacre designed the relief for the golden dollar in 2000. Shown also is the maquette of the Vietnam Women's Memorial, the monumental version of which is installed on the Mall in Washington, DC.
